This week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Food addiction can encompass a number of eating disorders and can be difficult to quantify. Data complied by the National Institutes of Health suggest that about 5% of the general population has food addiction. Food addiction affects people of all sizes, ages, genders, ethnicities, and backgrounds. WSIU's Jeff Williams recently talked with a recovering food addict about her experience and about the impact that the counseling program Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous has had on her life.
Food Addicts in Recover Anonymous, or FA, is a 12-step fellowship based program that is based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous. More information about FA and eating disorders is available on line at www.foodaddicts.org.
