Chicago, IL – Illinois residents who live in any of the 18 counties declared federal disaster areas after last month's floods may be eligible for a special disaster food stamp program.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced yesterday (Tuesday) it has authorized the Illinois Department of Human Services to issue the food stamps. Any Illinois resident who lived or worked in one of the counties at the time of the floods may qualify.
Officials say applications for the food stamps are available at State Human Services Centers in the 18 affected counties.
Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich says the state wants to make sure those affected by the floods will have the immediate needs of food, clothing and shelter met.
