Hundreds of people stood in line at locations across southern Illinois Wednesday, as the sale of marijuana for recreational purposes is now legal in the state.
Supplies are expected to be limited for the first several weeks of legal sales, but dispensaries in the region began selling early on New Year's Day as customers lined up before sunrise to make their purchases.
Illinois is the 11th state to broadly allow marijuana's use and sale for people 21 or older. Neighboring Michigan made it legal starting Dec. 1.
