A Mt. Vernon man is dead following a traffic crash on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County.
Illinois State Police say 39-year-old Charles Whipps died Monday night after his vehicle rear-ended a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Samantha Marshall of Elkhart, Indiana.
After the collision, Marshall's vehicle ran off the road and into a ditch. Whipps' vehicle continued north on the right shoulder of I-57 before it overturned in the median.
