DuQuoin Man Charged in Carbondale Robberies

Carbondale Police Department

Carbondale Police say they've arrested a suspect in a pair of robberies earlier this week.

The Department 33-year old Christopher Westberry of DuQuoin is being held in the Jackson County Jail, formally charged with aggravated robbery and robbery.

City officers responded to the Casey's General Store on Giant City Road late Monday night, where an employee there told them the suspect indicated he had a gun. Investigators say the suspect, a white man, stole cash and ran away from the store.

As the investigation unfolded, police say they matched the suspect's description to another robbery earlier that same day. Witnesses say in that incident, the man indicated he had a gun and stole cash from the Walgreen's on Wall Street – that was around 3:00 Monday morning.

Westberry’s court appearance is scheduled for November sixth in Jackson County Court.
