No injuries were reported after gunfire early Sunday morning in the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue in Carbondale.
Carbondale Police officers were monitoring crowds at bar-closing time. Around 2:18 a.m., they observed a disturbance begin among a group of people in the alleyway behind the businesses. They saw a man firing a handgun in the direction of a vehicle that was fleeing the alleyway. Officers ordered the man to drop his weapon. After he did so, they arrested 22-year-old Brett Jones of DeSoto.

Officers heard an additional gunshot come from an occupant of the vehicle as it fled the area.  The vehicle was subsequently located unoccupied on East Oak Street and it was impounded.

Jones was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggraded Unlawful Use of Weapons and incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail.

Two other vehicles were involved in a traffic crash because of the original vehicle's actions. There were no injuries reported.
