A dead body has been found in a wooded area in Marion.

Marion Police say its officers responded to a disturbance call at a local hotel early Monday morning.
During the investigation, two persons of interest fled the scene in a vehicle. Before police could attempt to make a traffic stop, the vehicle crashed on Longstreet Road , east of Route 37. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot into a wooded area.

A K-9 police dog led the Marion and Herrin Police Departments to the body, described as a white male.

The name of the deceased person is being withheld, pending family notification.

The Illinois State Police Department is leading the death investigation.
