Daily COVID Update: (July 9)

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Illinois crept over 1,000 for the first time in several weeks on Thursday, and total cases since the pandemic began now top 150,000 statewide.

IDPH confirms 1,018 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the overall total to 150,450. In addition, another 20 people died from the coronavirus, pushing the state's death toll to 7,119.

Over the previous week (July 2-July 8), the positivity rate - a percentage of positive results compared to overall tests - held at 2.6%. As of Thursday, Illinois had processed 1.88 million tests since the outbreak began.

LOCAL CASES (10:00pm Update)

Effingham County Health Department:

  • 7 new cases reported - a boy less than 10, a teen boy, a man and two women in their 40s, and a man and a woman in their 70s.
  • 31 overall positive cases of COVID-19, with 18 recoveries and one death.
  •  2,684 negative tests results.

Egyptian Health Department:

  • 5 new cases reported - a woman in her 50s from Gallatin County; a woman in her 20s, a man in his 30s, and a woman and man in their 70s from Saline County.
  • 27 overall positive cases of COVID-19, with 16 recoveries.
  • 2,324 tests administered in the three-county service area.

Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department:

  • 8 new cases - two teen girls and a woman in her 30s from Franklin County; a woman in her 30s, a man and a woman in their 50s, a woman in her 80s, and a woman in her 90s from Williamson County.
  • Total COVID-19 positive cases now stands at 142 cases with 84 recoveries and 4 deaths in Williamson County, 40 cases with 16 recoveries in Franklin County.

Jackson County Health Department:

  • 3 new cases reported - a man and a woman in their 30s, and a man in his 60s.
  • Jackson County's total positive test count is 342, with 304 recoveries and 19 deaths.

Jefferson County Public Health Department:.

  • 3 new cases reported - a man in his 20s, a man in his 50s, and a man over 100 who is a resident in a long-term care facility. The Health Department says all residents and staff at the facility are being tested.
  • Overall there have been 117 positive cases of COVID-19, with 95 recoveries and 14 deaths.
  • 3,282 negative test results.

Marion County Health Department:

  • 3 new cases reported - a woman in her 50s, and two women in their 60s.
  • Overall, there have been 77 positive cases of COVID-19, with 66 recoveries.
  • 2,685 negative test results.

Perry County Health Department:

  • 1 new case reported - a girl in her teens.
  • Overall, 61 positive cases of COVID-19, with 54 recoveries and one death.
  • 2,059 negative test results.

Randolph County Health Department:

  • 6 hew cases reported
  • Overall, 299 positive cases of COVID-19, with 282 recoveries and seven deaths.
  • 3,621 negative test results.

Richland County Public Health Department:

  • No new cases reported.
  • Overall, 8 positive cases of COVID-19, with 4 recoveries in Richland County.
  • 2,018 negative test results.

Southern Seven Health Department:

  • 9 new cases reported - a woman in her 50s, a woman in her 60s, and a woman in her 70s from Johnson County; two teen boys from Pulaski County; one teen girl, a woman in her 20s, a woman in her 50s, and a woman in her 60s from Union County.
  • Overall, Southern Seven reports 340 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 235 recoveries and 17 deaths. The IDPH has ruled one death previously tied to COVID-19 was not, in fact, related.
  • 5,819 negative test results in the seven county service area (as of July 6).
