Gaege Bethune enters the Jackson County Courthouse before being charged in the death of Pravin Varughese.

Closing arguments are set to begin Thursday in the murder trial of the man accused of killing an SIU student in 2014.

The Southern Illinoisan reports the defense team for 23-year-old Gaege Bethune intended to rest Wednesday afternoon.
Bethune is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Pravin Varughese.

Bethune previously told the jury he was scared when he lied to a State Trooper who pulled over to investigate why Bethune's truck was stopped on the side of Illinois Route 13 on the night Varughese disappeared.

Bethune is accused of getting into a fight with Varughese in February of 2014. Varughese was found dead several days later in the woods near Buffalo Wild Wings.
