A Williamson County man is headed to prison for violating terms of his probation after pleading guilty to battering his girlfriend.
The Jackson County State's Attorney says 29-year-old Joseph Joiner of Carterville was sentenced to three years in state prison.
In May 2019, Jackson County Sheriff's deputies arrested Joiner after finding his girlfriend inside a vehicle with him. She had darkly bruised and swollen eyes and redness on her cheeks. She told the officers Joiner had hit her that day while she was driving the vehicle, but her blackened and swollen eyes were a result of Joiner punching her in the face a few days before.
Last July, Joiner pleaded guilty to the charges of Domestic Batteryand Resisting a Peace Officer. He was sentenced to probation.
Joiner did not comply with the terms as ordered, so he was resentenced this month.
