Carbondale Warming Center Recieves $10,000 Donation

The Carbondale Warming Center received a financial boost Tuesday.

Church Women United Illinois donated ten thousand dollars to the Carbondale Warming Center.

At the beginning of the pandemic the center started staying open 24 hours and providing three meals a day to individuals staying there.

The center also helps individuals get help with medical needs and connect them to social services.

Executive Director Carmalita Cahill says this donation will help a lot of people.

“Our funding comes from the people in this community and we can’t be more grateful for that because that’s keeping small children off the street, individuals who may or may not have the ability right now to determine if they’re safe when its cold outside, their mental health doesn’t allow them to do that and we’re not one of the cities with people in our streets freezing to death and that’s something as a community we can take pride in.”

The center currently has 37 individuals staying there including 6 children under the age of 10.
