The mostly completed Super Splash Park Outdoor Aquatics Center in Carbondale won't open for at least two more months.
Carbondale Park District executive director Kathy Renfro says they're still waiting for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to release the remaining $1.7 million of the $2.5 million state grant to complete the final 25% of the project.
IDNR, at Governor Bruce Rauner's direction, suspended the project's grant funding last month.
Renfro says if the contractor could get back to work by Monday, the splash park could open by July 4th, well after the scheduled Memorial Day weekend grand opening.
Renfro says some people thought these funds were swept to help the state meets its requirements for the rest of the current fiscal year. She says that's not the case and they are still available to be released.
