Carbondale Raises Illinois Bicentennial Flag

On Monday, December 4th, 2017, Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry raised the official Illinois Bicentennial flag  in front of a crowd of about a  dozen local officials, and state lawmakers.  On December 3rd, 1818 Illinois was admitted as the 21st state, and the flag–raising was repeated in scores of towns and cities all across Illinois.

Diane Hood, a 30–year resident of southern Illinois, and the manager of the Furniture King store, said she is very proud to say that Illinois is her home and she said we should all work together to build up the state.  State Representitive Terry Bryant was on hand, and she spoke of  the importance of the state's rich  Abraham Lincoln heritage.  Bryant said when former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, visited Illinois last December, he did so to visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
