Phase 4 of Restore Illinois allows public playgrounds, child care facilities and schools to reopen.

Since mid March public playgrounds were shut down by the state to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Now that Illinois is in the revitalization phase of Restore Illinois some communities are busy reopening public playgrounds following state recommended guidelines.

Park District sent our a release last week saying they re-opened the playgrounds on Friday, July 3rd.  So they're already open.

Executive director Kathy Renfro says some of the facilities will not reopen.

“Many of our outdoor restrooms don’t, sunlight does not permeate those buildings, there’s not a way to open windows and so forth, so we feel like it’s in the best interest of everybody’s health to leave the outdoor restrooms and the drinking fountains off for right now.”

The playground at Turley Park is being remodeled into an all-inclusive playground and will remain closed for construction.

The Park District will reopen Kids Korner Child Care and the Life Center indoor pool.
