Press Conference In Carbondale Advocating For Graduated Income Tax

Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry and area leaders are urging everyone to vote early and vote yes for the Graduated Income Tax Amendment.

Wednesday morning at the Carbondale City Hall Mayor Mike Henry was joined by representatives from local small business, education, organized labor, environmental, and social services to back the Graduated Income Tax Amendment and to vote early.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers business representative Jason Woolard says voting yes could benefit the region.

“Hopefully it will help us to pay down our state debt, increase state funding for our schools and help our children set their selves on a better path to success and with hope it might eventually increase our opportunities for local governments to lower property tax levels in our region.”

Opponents of the plan say it gives the legislature too much power to raise taxes, but advocates say that's not true.
