A Carbondale man has been sentenced for the offense of unlawful use of weapons by a felon.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 24-year-old Demarcus Jones pleaded guilty and received a two-and-a-half year prison term.
In August, Carbondale Police stopped a vehicle in which Jones was a passenger in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane. A loaded 38-calibur semi-automatic handgun was found under the front passenger seat where Jones was sitting. A search of Jones revealed a fully loaded 38-calibur magazine, matching the gun. He was a previous felon for a burglary conviction.

Officers detained a female driver and four other occupants of the vehicle pending an investigation.
