A Carbondale man has been sentenced to prison for violating his probation on an aggravated battery charge.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 32-year-old Joshua Stephens received an eight-year prison term.
Stephens pleaded guilty last year to punching another man in the face and stealing his bicycle at a business on Walnut Street in Murphysboro. He was placed on probation for 18 months. But, Stephens was sentenced last week after he failed to comply with the conditions of his probation.

At the sentencing hearing, evidence indicated Stephens was also involved in another incident in May of this year where he broke into a car in Carbondale and then hit the owner who had interrupted the burglary. Charges in this incident were dismissed by the State given his eight-year sentence.
