A Jackson County jury returned guilty verdicts on charges of Robbery and Aggravated Battery against a Carbondale man.

The Jackson County State's attorney says 35-year-old Joe Coleman, Jr. faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison on the Robbery charge and up to five years on the Aggravated Battery charge.
Coleman was found guilty of striking a man during an incident in August 2016 at North Westridge Drive and Concord Court in Carbondale. Coleman and another man reportedly took his backpack then fled the area in a SUV, which was quickly located by police.

The victim, after being treated by emergency responders, was driven to the location of the SUV where he positively identified Coleman as the person who struck him in the face. He also identified the property located in the SUV as the property taken from him.

Coleman, Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced on March 29.
