Masks are now required in Carbondale - in all public places where distancing isn't possible.
A new ordinance makes the face coverings mandatory in stores and businesses, when picking up food and in drive-thrus, in all educational facilities, when using public transportation, and more.
Violations of the new rule carry a penalty of up to $750. The requirement comes as Jackson County was added to the state's COVID-19 warning list on Friday, and cases in the county - particularly among young people - continue to grow.
