The Carbondale Park District canceled the lights fantastic parade this year, but there’s still some holiday events happening.

The lights fantastic parade might be canceled this year, but the Carbondale Park District will still kick off the holiday season during the first weekend in December.

Some of the floats will be on display at the South Washington concert venue.

On Saturday the city will still have the cookie walk scavenger hunt and window display contest.

Executive Director Kathy Renfro says even though they’re saddened there won’t be a parade, they’re happy they can help draw people to the downtown businesses.

“We need it now more than ever, these people have held on all of these months since early spring and so one great way you can invest in in the future of all of these things like the parade, like the cookie walk is to show up and participate.”

Saturday at noon Santa in the park will be relocated behind Macy’s to provide more space for social distancing.
