A Carbondale Police officer has been honored for his efforts to stop an active shooter situation last year.

Sergeant Guy Draper was awarded the Chief's Medal of Valor and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Medal of Valor Wednesday during a ceremony at the Carbondale Public Safety Center.
Draper is credited with shooting and wounding a man who was firing into a crowd on West Main Street in October 2017.
