Carbondale Continues Gigabit Project

The City of Carbondale and community leaders are continuing to build on the Gigabit City designation.

The designation means Carbondale has completed installation of the first phase of a new, more reliable and faster Internet network.

The city's economic development coordinator Gary Williams recently attended a Gigabit Summit in Kansas City to look at ways to capitalize on enhanced technological advances.

Williams says he was skeptical about the technology because he thought Carbondale would have a small window to take advantage of it. But, he says that's not the case.

Williams says city and community leaders are still learning about what being a Gigabit City means. He says they're working on a tangible project that will allow residents to get a better handle on it as well.

Williams says the city of Carbondale is in the midst of applying for a grant that could provide $50,000 to further develop the project.
