The Carbondale City Council will discuss the fiscal year 21 budget and how COVID-19 will affect it, as they meet this week.

The Carbondale City Council wants to begin looking at how their F-Y 2021 budget might look, as COVID-19 has taken a big toll on revenues.

“Were already looking for places in our budget to do cuts for next  fiscal year.”

COVID-19 restrictions closed the city's restaurants and bars in the spring and then again in the fall from an influx of new cases.

Mayor Mike Henry says the city has numerous employees retiring in the near future, but most of those positions won’t be filled.

“We’ve been looking at on a 20 million budget of about 2.5 million shortfall.”

Mayor Henry says the deficit could be less depending on what actions the state and governor decide on.
