Car Vigil For Victims Of Racial Injustice

There will be a symbolic funeral procession for George Floyd and all those lost to racial injustice in Carbondale on Friday.

Organizer Nancy Maxwell said the vigil is in response to people who said they would like to participate in other Black Lives Matter demonstrations that have been held recently, but haven’t felt comfortable due to the risk of contracting the coronavirus.

“”This is our new reality since COVID-19, because we do drive-by graduations, drive-by birthdays, and when talking to some people that said they would really like to come out and march but it’s not feasible for them, I thought why not do a drive-by march?” Maxwell said.

The event will begin at 4 pm Friday at the Eurma Hayes Center, and will drive to the Carbondale police station and back.
