A man convicted of killing a southeast Missouri woman and leaving her body along a southern Illinois road has been sentenced.

The Jackson County State's Attorney's office says 31-year-old Brandon Banks of Cape Girardeau received a 103-year prison term.
A jury found Banks guilty of first degree murder, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a felon in the death of 40-year-old Marsha Ann Brown of Cape Girardeau.

Brown's body was found in tall weeds on a small embankment near Makanda in January 2014.

Evidence at the trial revealed Brown, Banks and two others traveled from Cape Girardeau to Carbondale in January 2014 to attend a party at a local motel.

Brown and Banks got into an argument at the party and Brown called 911 to report she was being held against her will. Banks suspected Brown had called police, so he had the group drive to Potters Road, where he shot Brown three times, including once in the face. The group left the scene, where Brown's body was discovered the next morning by a passerby.
