Bill Alstat Passes Away

People
Jackson County
Bill Alstat

A man who has served Jackson County and all of southern Illinois in many ways over the years has passed away.

Bill Alstat died Friday in southeast Missouri.
Alstat was elected to the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees in April 2015 after serving on the Jackson County Board for 25 years.

Jackson County Board chair John Rendleman says one of Alstat's greatest achievements was keeping the county budget in line during a time of financial uncertainty.

"He was the finance chairman for a long time and he was able to make sure there was no panic, or anything like that. He was just very steady, a very careful, hard-working guy."

He says Alstat remained a valuable resource right up to his death.

"Even though he wasn't on the county board, he was available to us and was in fact consulted by a lot of board members."

Friends can pay their respects at the Wilson Funeral Home in Ava on 5-8 p.m. Monday, August 22 and again Tuesday, August 23 from 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. His funeral will follow.

Tuesday's John A. Logan College board meeting has been rescheduled for August 30.
