A state auditor's report says some Illinois bridges are not being inspected as often as they should be by the state's Department of Transportation.

The report says about 60 Illinois bridges that were at least four years old have gone without recent or regular inspections. One bridge built in 1998 had only a single inspection on the books.

The Office of the Auditor General's report examines inspection records filed as of May 1st for more than 26,000 working bridges in the state.

The report determined many of the bridges that went without being checked also have structural problems.

A state Department of Transportation spokesman says the agency is studying the report and did not have an immediate response.
