A suspect has been arrested for an armed robbery last week at the Circle K convenience store in Carbondale.
The Carbondale Police Department says 43-year-old Arthur Eckles, Jr. of Calumet City was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail, where his bond is set at 500-thousand dollars.
Officers responded to the Circle K on South Illinois Avenue early Friday morning. They learned two suspects entered the business and demanded money. Both suspects were believed to be black males and both were wearing Halloween masks. One suspect was armed with a handgun. The suspects fled the business on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and merchandise. There were no injuries.
The investigation continues into this incident and the series of armed robberies, which have occurred in Carbondale and Herrin since late July. All are being investigated as related.
The cities of Carbondale and Herrin previously partnered to offer a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and the conviction of those responsible for the recent string of armed robberies in both cities.
