The Board of Education at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School has approved an updated bullying policy.
Superintendent Rob Wright says schools are required to update their policy every couple of years to stay current with state law.
But, he admits the Anna-Jonesboro school board sped up its action on the policy in light of a highly publicized bullying incident back in September that involved members of the Wildcat football team.
Wright says his district wants to stay out in front of the issue because the safety of students is of the utmost concern.
"Make the students aware of how to report it. What things are bullying, what's not. Make things easier for them, even through anonymous complaints, for other kids to stand up for kids that they see are being bullied. That's the whole point of getting it out there and changing the culture that, 'Hey, this stuff's not going to be tolerated anymore.'"
The incident earlier this fall at Anna-Jonesboro resulted in the school board voting to expel three students.
An independent investigation cleared Superintendent Wright and Principal Bret Detering of any wrongdoing. Detering is also the head football coach.
