Ameren Illinois and Driver’s Education Association are teaming up to roll out a new safety curriculum for new drivers.
Back in 2017 a Unity High School student was driving home during a storm when winds blew power lines onto her vehicle.
Ameren Illinois Vice President Ron Pate says, “Not knowing any better, she was 16 at the time, and not knowing any better she thought the car would catch on fire and she exited the car.”
Pate said the experience is why the utility company is teaming up with the Driver’s Education Assocation to teach new drivers.
“It’s a web based program and completely free and they are able to share it with there students and we have had tremendous response from that.”
Dale Ritzel, Curriculum Chair for the Illinois High School and College Driver’s Education Assocation. He says the program is a great learning experience.
“Teachers like many teachers in all fields they are looking for something different and new. That will be interesting specifically if it has a visual factor.”
Ritzel says Driver’s Education Teachers are excited about the new program as well.
