The 19th Annual For Kids' Sake art auction is this month.
Ryan Edwards, the assistant director, says this fundraiser uses children's artwork to raise funds for six orphanages and schools in Bangladesh.
"A lot of different schools donate artwork to the show, Johnston City, we have I think some from EMS, The Kids Korner is a constant donation. There's also Eldorado. So yeah. So we've got artwork from all over. There's actually over 200 pieces of art in the show. And nearly all of it is kids' work."
He says the show at Longbranch Café and Bakery in Carbondale helps with the promise the charity was created for.
"There was a gentleman named Sayed Dayemullah, over in Bangladesh, who was an orphan himself. And he went around as an adult and established orphanages all over the country and upon his passing, he requested of his spiritual disciple, can you make sure that my kids are taken care of. And that was Sheikh Din, and his way of making sure those children were taken care of was by founding For Kids' Sake."
Edwards says over twenty years later, they still have the connections with six schools and orphanages in Bangladesh.
The artwork can be found at Longbranch Café and Bakery in Carbondale. The silent auction is going on now. The final day to bid is April 26th when a festival for the event will take place, including live music.
Edwards says last year the auction raised $29,000. This year's goal is $30,000. The youngest artist this year is four-years-old. The oldest is 94.
