Activists are demanding Senator Tammy Duckworth support the THRIVE Act.

A small group gathered in front of Duckworth’s Carbondale office to voice support for the ten trillion dollar bill. Organizer Gregory Norris called the act a once in a generation opportunity.

“When you look at the Biden plan, he went big but he did not go big enough. Not for assuring that everybody will be a part of a just transition and a new economy that will be inclusive to those who are often left behind, particularly those who are identified as the black and brown people,” Norris said.

The Thrive Act includes investments in renewable energy and job creation. The act also addresses racial justice and how to cut climate pollution in half by 2030.

Meanwhile, Republicans say Biden went way too big. Some GOP House member from Illinois also say the definition of infrastructure should not include public housing, energy projects or healthcare.
