Simoncast guest William Burns discusses working with Putin as the ambassador to Russia

William Burns, the director of the CIA, talked with John Shaw in June of 2020, when he was the president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. They talked about Burns' career as a diplomat, including his run-ins with Russian President Vladimir Putin while Burns was serving as the U.S. ambassador to Russia. We reached back into our archives to bring you this conversation as Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues and Burns is in the news in his capacity in U.S. intelligence. We think it gives some insight and context into the experience of someone you've likely been reading about.

Hosted by John Shaw. Produced and edited by Alee Quick. This podcast is produced through a partnership between the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute and WSIU Public Radio. For more, visit paulsimoninstitute.org/podcasts.
