Franklin County Courthouse plans a dedication ceremony April 22, 2022

Construction is nearly complete on the new Franklin County Courthouse and a dedication ceremony is planned for later this month.

On April 22 at 11am Franklin County will hold a dedication ceremony for their new 46,000 square foot courthouse.

In 2019 voters passed a one cent sales tax to fund the demolition and construction of the facility and remodeling of the Campbell building to relocate the courthouse during construction.

The one cent sales tax generates around $2.4 million dollars a year allowing them to pay off the courthouse by 2027.

Franklin County Circuit Clerk Jim Muir says one of the major changes is the new entrance to the courthouse.

“When the architects drew up the design, the cause of the of the fact that Interstate 57 feeds in to West Maine and people coming into Benton off the interstate, would they would come up West Maine, they thought that the best site would, you know, best foot forward would be to have the west entrance of the main entrance on the west side.”

Visitors at the dedication will receive a book and commemorative coin with the old courthouse on one side and the new one on the other while supplies last.
