State Grants to Fund Local Infrastructure Projects

The city of Marion will use a two-million dollar state grant to build a much-needed water tower.

Allison Hasler, Marion's Community Programs Director,   says the city's growth on the east side has put greater demands on water, especially for the fire department.

"When our firefighters get called to anything east of Fairground street, they immediately have to call backup, because there's just not enough water flow."

Hasler says the new 500,000 gallon water tower will be built on Broeking  road and will create nearly three dozen construction jobs.  The new tower, she says, should be operational in a year.

The city of Carbondale will also receive about one point two million dollars to help make Evergreen Park more A-D-A compliant.
