A Jackson County jury has convicted a Carbondale man of Home Invasion, Unlawful Possession of Weapons by a Felon, and Criminal Damage to Property.The Jackson County State's Attorney says 30-year-old Jaymond Palacio faces up to 21 years in prison for Home Invasion, up to 14 years for Unlawful Use of Weapons and an extended term for Criminal Damage to Property.
Last July, Carbondale Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a home invasion at an apartment complex on Grand Avenue in Carbondale.
Three women told officers a man they knew ran through the apartment and out a bedroom window. Moments later, Palacio entered the apartment wearing a ski mask and brandishing a handgun. As he left, Palacio pulled down his mask to reveal his face.The women identified Palacio by reviewing mugshots. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Palacio will be sentenced in about six weeks.
