An Effingham man has been sentenced to three years in prison related to a theft on an Amtrak train in Carbondale.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 33-year-old William Knight, Jr. previously pleaded guilty to Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon.
In February, Carbondale Police officers were dispatched to the Amtrak station in Carbondale on a report of theft on the train. After a brief investigation, officers determined Knight had pillaged the luggage car and stolen a number of items including electronics, jewelry, and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with two loaded magazines.

Knight is a felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
