On March 19th, the Southern 7 Health Department is hosting a Strollin' Through the Colon event for colorectal cancer awareness month.

Health department administrator Rhonda Ray said the event gives people a unique opportunity to learn more about anatomy.

"We will have this 20 foot, giant inflatable colon that people can walk through and it just basically tells you what's on the inside of the colon, there will be pictures of polyps, pictures of tumors, pictures of what just the regular wall of the colon looks like, so you will get to see some of those things. You know it's not every day you get to walk through a 20 foot inflatable colon," she said.

There will also be free screening kits available, and the event will be held at Big Johns Grocery in Metropolis from 10 am until noon.

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women.
