Walk of Fame Challenge

Murphysboro is encouraging people to get active while learning a little bit of the town’s history at the same time.

Through the end of July, the City of Murphysboro is inviting people to take their Walk of Fame Challenge.

The one- and one-half mile route has sixteen vinyl stars describing athletes, political figures, and celebrities that have called Murphysboro home.

Jackson County Health  Department Health Educator Angie Kuehl (Keel) says the idea came after a city-wide sidewalk audit last year.

“We decided to do this temporary demonstration of what that could look like in the community, it’s a great way to one highlight some of the improvements in the sidewalk that have been made already and it’s a great way to get folks out walking and doing healthy activities in town.”

The sidewalk improvements were funded by a grant from the Illinois State Physical Activity and Nutrition Program to create activity friendly routes in the state.
