The CDC's COVID transmission map lists several southern Illinois counties in "medium" to "high" transmission levels

COVID data reported from the Illinois Department of Public Health

The number of new weekly cases of COVID-19 has dropped by nearly 10,000 cases in the last four weeks.

The state's public health department recorded 25,084 new cases this week - compared to 35,371 on July 29. Forty-two Illinois counties are rated "high" on the CDC's transmission map, and another 39 are rated "medium."

More than 1,400 people are hospitalized with COVID in Illinois, and 56 people died with it in the last week. Since tracking began, more than 3.6 million cases have been reported.

Health leaders continue to urge the unvaccinated to get a shot - and others to make sure their boosters are up to date.
