John A Logan College started the New Year with a new president.
Dr. Kirk Overstreet accepted the position in December to replace Dr. Ron House who retired at the end of the year.
Overstreet comes from the College of DuPage, where he served as Assistant Provost for Instruction.
He says he didn’t do very well his first year of college and worked as an electrician for 15 years before he returned to the same community college where he started.
“I found my niche was community college, I think that’s where my place is because this is how I got my start and I work really hard to try to help other students who are in my kind of position get those opportunities.”
Dr. Overstreet says after he gets settled in, he wants to work with the faculty and staff to plan goals for the college to increase enrollment and make sure students are prepared to be successful.
