Walker's Bluff Casino Resort breaks ground for construction

Walkers Bluff officially broke ground on their Casino Resort Wednesday.

Governor JB Pritzker was joined by the owners of Walkers Bluff, state legislators and local leaders to break ground on the nearly 200,000 square foot complex.

The $147 million project will bring more than a thousand construction jobs and hundreds of permanent jobs with benefits once it opens.

Governor Pritzker says all of Southern Illinois will see economic growth after it opens.

“All of the tourists, they're going to come to not only Walker's bluff but to all the surrounding region, and they're bringing their wallets with them and they're going to spend money at restaurants, they're going to spend money at retailers and they're going to help the economy of the entire region that's going to lift up everybody.”

The Casino Resort is projected to open by early 2023
