Southern Illinois University, via the SIUC Annuitants Association, is partnering with the Red Cross to help save lives by hosting a 2-day blood drive on Monday, August 26, and Tuesday, August 27, at the Student Center’s Renaissance Room from 10 am to 2 pm both days. To schedule an appointment, donors can visit www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800 RED CROSS. Walk-in’s are also welcomed the day of the drive. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. The Red Cross needs to collect approximately 14,000 pints of blood every day to maintain an adequate blood supply at hospitals across the country. Every two seconds someone needs a blood transfusion, and by spending just an hour of your time to donate blood, you could help up to three hospital patients.
