Camp Little Giant at SIU’s Touch of Nature is taking a hiatus for the summer of 2022 with plans to return next year.

For 70 years Camp Little Giant has provided outdoor recreation for people of all abilities.

Last year COVID-19 forced them to try using a day camp model which was problematic for the campers and the caregivers.

Assistant Director of Outdoor Education and Recreation Brian Croft says they’re forming a task force to review all aspects of the camp.

“Looking at staffing, facilities, format of the camp. I mean, all of it. We're just going to kind of go. And again, this is not with an intention to cut anything. It's more about, OK, what do we want to be and how do we get there and what do we need what do we need to do to get there and hopefully provide some strategies to get there?”

The task force will be comprised of Touch of Nature stakeholders, inclusive and adaptive industry experts, medical professionals and community leaders.
