The SIU football team is headed back to the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2009.

The Salukis found out they qualified for the 16-team bracket on Sunday.
SIU will travel to Ogden, Utah to take on Weber State this weekend.

The Salukis concluded the abbreviated regular season on Saturday with a 5-3 record after a 55-48 win over Southeastern Louisiana. The highest scoring game in Saluki Stadium history.

Senior linebacker Bryce Notree says getting to play last Saturday and defeat another playoff contender in Southeastern Louisiana made it all possible.

"Everything we've done this whole year, with all this COVID stuff going around, everything we had to sacrifice, just going out there and playing a game meant the world to a lot of people. As a team, I speak for everybody, we can't thank the administration enough for scheduling a game like that because looking at it now, it put us in the playoffs."

Another fifth year senior, offensive lineman ZeyVeon Furcron, says he proud to be a part of building a solid foundation that returned the Salukis back to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

"The Class of 2016, us being Coach (Nick) Hill's first class after getting the head coaching position, being able to build that foundation coming in now. Being able to see our names up there is good."

Weber State will be making its 5th straight playoff appearance. The Wildcats won the Big Sky Conference championship with a perfect 5-0 record.

Kickoff is set for 3pm central time on Saturday.
