Friends Of Carbondale Dog Parks Breaks Ground On The City's First Public Dog Park

The Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks broke ground at the site of Carbondale’s first public dog park Tuesday.

After a nine month delay the Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks finally broke ground to start construction on a two-and-a-half-acre dog park at Parrish Park.

Jane Adams serves as President for the non-profit organization and says they were disappointed about the delay due to COVID-19.

“We had it all planned and it was going to be after spring break and then nobody came back spring break everything got closed.”

Adams says many people from the community and local businesses offered support.

“People felt a real need for a dog park, there’s no place were dogs can just run free and so this will be two and a half acres which is a good size space with one side for small dogs and one side for large dogs.”

In the spring students with the John A Logan Construction program will start building the shelters and the group plans to add recreational activities to the park in the future.
