The Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks thanked donors for helping them make progress on their goal of raising $50,000 for phase one of the park.
The group thanked Jo and Glenn Poshard and the John A. Logan College construction program for helping efforts to build Carbondale's first dog park.
President Jane Adams says the park will be good for people as well as dogs.
"We don't have many public spaces where people can just meet casually," she said. "So we think it's really good in that way for the community, for the people in the community as well as the dogs."
Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks is continuing to raise funds and will start contruction as soon as they reach their goal.
