Southern Illinois Fruit And Vegetable Day Planned For August 7th In Murphysboro.

Nathan Johanning/University Of Illinois Extension Service.
An Example Of Different Peppers Producers Can Grow In Southern Illinois.

This Monday (8/7/17) the U of I Extension Service in Murphysboro is holding an outdoor demonstration to create awareness of new crops and new techniques.  Nathan Johanning, a U of I Extension Educator in Local Food System and Small Farms  says even though he has been raising crops for many years, he is always amazed by new varieties and new ways of controlling pests. Among the topics, how to grow Ornamental Corn, Sweet Snacking Peppers and how to make the most of using high tunnels in the garden or farm.  Other experts will be on hand to talk about growing asparagus and cover crops and to talk about how to keep deer out of your growing areas.

Monday’s workshop starts at 4:00PM and will take place outside at the U of I Extension Service office on Ava Road in Murphysboro.  For more information call 687-1727.For more information visit:  https://ipm.illinois.edu/ifvn/contents.php
