Mayor of Carbondale to take a leave of absence after wife's death

Carbondale mayor John "Mike" Henry found his wife dead in their home on August 9th.

Following the death of his wife, Theresa, Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry has announced he will take a temporary leave of absence until further notice.

Councilwoman Carolin Harvey will assume the role of Mayor Pro Tempore and will take over mayoral duties during Mayor Henry’s absence.

The Mayor found his wife dead at home on Tuesday.

In announcing his leave of absence, Henry issued a statement saying he is dealing with indescribable sadness and he is asking for privacy as funeral arrangements are made. Henry also thanked people for their condolences.

All investigative matters into the death of Theresa Henry are being handled by the Illinois State Police.
