A train struck a pedestrian late Tuesday morning in Carbondale.

Police say the victim was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and later transferred to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The name of the pedestrian is not being released at this time to notify family.

The incident occurred on the tracks between the 400 block of North Washington Street and North Illinois Avenue around 11:30 a.m.

The crash caused all railroad crossings to be closed for about an hour because of the train blocking the crossings.
